Or how about this for Unit Specific Weapons?
Mechs - Particle Energy Weapons (PEW) Troops - Mortars Vehicles - Anti Aircraft Weapon (AAA) Aircraft - Rockets

Rocket pods do make sense for aircraft. Maybe instead of making the above weapons entirely exclusive, give them a 1bp price break, so that, for instance, a heavy PEW costs 3bp for a mech, but 4 for infantry, aircraft or vehicles.

What if the unit specific weapons work like "Rock - Scissors - Paper"?
Troops have Anti-Aircraft Weapons Vehicles have Anti-Personnel Weapons Aircraft have Anti-Vehicle/Anti-Tank Weapons
These unit specific weapons could be used against any of the other targets, but they would either do much less damage or be much less accurate. Mechs wouldn't necessarily get a unit specific weapon as they are better equipped to defeat any of the others. Or maybe there is a Mech only weapon like the PEW.
The idea of this approach is to give the Troops, Vehicles, and Aircraft a special edge against one of the others but at the cost of effectiveness against the other two (three if you count the Mechs). Keeping the Mechs out of the "Ro Sham Bo" helps keep the game focused on them.

Ooh! An idea on one shots: One shot weapons cost 2bp less, min 1bp. Still do all the heat, tho.
And then you can have Ammo Reloads in a vehicle's bay to go around reloading. Also 1 bp.
