It's me again... maybe with another stupid question. I've read the main rules twice now, but still I cannot figure out what scanning is made for. First I just thought it's a pseudo-action for mechs to get rid of heat, but now I realized that troops and vehicles can do a scan too... Is it a scenario-driven action? (Maybe to identify a target with important cargo or to decide which building to save and which to destroy?) Sorry to ask that much, english is not my mother tongue, maybe that's the problem.

You must be talking about the SCANNING token from the free accessories set? If so, that was an extra thrown in to support house rules, scenarios, and the like. I've thought about using it this way: SCAN Order: Give your unit a SCAN order instead of a FIRE order during it's activation. Then at a later time, after your opponent has just completed a MOVE order, you may immediately re-activate the SCANNING unit and execute a FIRE order. Your opponent then completes their activation. So if your unit is SCANNING, and you think an enemy may have just moved into range, you can interrupt your opponents activation and react. My worry is that it might complicate and slow down the action until you've had a few games under your belt. Maybe restrict a SCANNING unit to only being able to react with one weapon?... Needs some playtesting... Don't be surprised to see a version of that in a future version... maybe called OVERWATCH... jus' sayin'.

Dagger - I really like the "overwatch" use of scanning. I'll have to test that out in my next game.

You must be talking about the SCANNING token from the free accessories set? I got that rule from page 2 Text 4.2b "combat orders" in the main rules of mech attack. Because of that I thought it is a fully developed component of the game. Since I play a lot of other games, I can imagine what you mean with "overwatch". Question answered, thank you very much!
