Here's an idea I've had for a house rule:
When you fire a weapon and miss, the amount that you missed by is the distance from the target that your shot actually hit. To figure out what direction your shot went: roll a D6 and count the sides on the target's base in a clockwise circle starting with the front arc as 1. The right arc is 2, rear arcs are 3-5, and the left arc is 6. Drawing a straight line from the edge of the target's base equal in inches to the amount that your initial roll missed by. If there is a miniature at the end of the line roll a D10 (or another D6) and on an odd roll, that target was hit instead.

I like this better than the core rule.
It seemed improper that I might need to roll a 10 to hit my target but a 50% chance of hitting his neighbor.
