Lately I've been working on experimenting with PDF layers to give more options to printing pages. Getting the backgrounds on the layers to be transparent has been a bit of a struggle, but I may have this figured out. If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them. I've been using a combination of Corel Draw, Corel Photo Paint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
There aren't really any exciting examples to show yet, but I just wanted to give an update to let you know that we haven't fallen off the face of the Earth. Hopefully I can give some glimpses into this project soon.

You might try to get ahold of Dave at www.davesgames.net/. I believe his email is luminousbeings@yahoo.com. He also has a spot on the One Monk forum, under DAVE GRAFFAM Models. He uses layers in his buildings and does a wonderful job--he would be a great source in information.

Dave Graffam has said that he uses Adobe InDesign to assemble the layers. The layers are made from .png exports from Photoshop. The .png format preserves transparency, can the Corel programs export in the .png format?

Thanks for the tips! I don't have Adobe Indesign, but I do have Acrobat Pro and I've been able to get the transparent backgrounds to work with GIF files (for some reason the PNGs don't work...). I'll see if Dave has any tips.

I know this helps very little Wafflem, but once scribus address this bug: bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=8490You'll be able to use scribus to lay out layered PDF's it amost works now it's just missing the print whats visible option that indesign contains.
