I've really been enjoying Mech Attack in 10mm with rebased mechwarrior minis, but recently I've been thinking about Mech Attack in 28mm. It sounds a bit nuts, but with the mass of "Robogear" mechs still available on ebay for around 8-10 bucks shipped, and seeing as MA only requires a few mechs per side for a good game, it seems like a doable project. None of them are painted, but I've got quite a few Robogear mechs assembled well as a few Robotech toys and models. This seems like the kind of game that would go over really well at a convention. Besides doubling the ranges, what else would have to be done to adapt MA for 28mm? Here's a few of my assembled Robogear mechs. Most of these are in some way modified or customized.

Nice mechs you have there... I love that militaristic style. As for 28mm vs 15mm, I went with 15mm to minimize the amount of space needed to play a game and it's better suited for paper figs (in my opinion). That being said, I see no reason why you can't run with 28mm if you want. Like you said, I would start with doubling the ranges and see how it goes and adjust it from there.
Be sure to give us an update once you get those painted (^_^)

Those look fabulous! Another thing to browse on ebay. While your mechs and guys are in paint process, though, share the process! Love the mods, too.

Those vipers are quite nice. Even with the huge cockpits, they'd probably look pretty good along side the 10mm Mechwarrior stuff I'm using now. at around 6 bucks they're also quite reasonably priced. If I didn't have a huge backlog of Mechwarrior figs, I'd probably snap a few up.
