I've almost completed the helicopter version prototype and hopefully will be ready to print and build later this afternoon. I've decided to go with a "standard" central rotor with tail rotors or jets for counter spin. I thought about going with a stacked twin rotor as they seem pretty cutting edge technology right now, but to me that design just screams, "Hey look! I'm a toy!" I realize that it's just a personal bias, but it would also be pretty spindly in paper. Plus I always think of this image when I think of helicopters without tail rotors: I've also decided to add optional wing tip rotors so you can build your models as osprey type aircraft. Hopefully I'll have the prototypes for that done today too.

I did some tinkering with the rotor blade swoosh on acetate and I like the concept with paper rotors applied. Since then I've darkened the shadow colors to make them more visible (you can just barely see the gradient shadows in the photos below), but below you can see my first attempts: And here is the textured/detailed fighter in gray:

Looking good! I like the fighter best, but it probably due to it's the only one textured.

Looking good!!
I suppose you could mix and match the models for rotor/no rotor style?
When these are complete you guys have an awesome paper model offer!

Thanks!
Yes, all the parts will be interchangeable and the rotors can be added or not. I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but the wings will also be reversible so you can turn them around if you want to change from forward swept to back swept.

I've finished the three different styles and will have test builds done this weekend (barring another alpaca escape! ). So I've moved on to updating the weapons for aircraft. I'm basically reducing the height of each and making them appear more suited to being mounted under the wing of an aircraft. These weapons will have the same slot size as the Mech and Vehicle weapons, so they can be used interchangeably. Here is a preview of the machine guns: Based on my design of the Heavy Machine Gun, I'm a little stumped on the best look for the Twin-Linked version...

Awesome... those are going to look good on Mechs too! (^_^)
Twin-Linked idea - Maybe a side-by-side design rather than the other over-under designs?

Twin-Linked idea - Maybe a side-by-side design rather than the other over-under designs? That's my conundrum. It would be easy to just mount two weapons side-by-side to be Twin-Linked (and I think it's a really great option), but I really like the over-under designs on the Light and Mediums. Perhaps the Twin-Linked Heavy Machine Guns will need to loose the nose cones... Test build update: I finished running the three different designs through my SD cutter. All parts have been glued up and are being pressed under a stack of books overnight. I use spray adhesive to glue up the back to back pieces, so they probably don't need to be pressed overnight. But it's midnight and I'm too tired to start edging.
