I've begun working on new versions of our Armor Grid Infantry and new VTOL Aircraft designs. First up: Infantry! The main infantry miniatures are remaining mostly the same, but I've separated out the weapon tripod and redesigned it. The weapon tripod is now a true tripod (three legs instead of four) and I've updated it to be a single piece (not counting the weapon). Now the infantry's support weapons can be added or removed at the players discretion. This shows the tripod by itself on a 40mm hex for scale. The next two photos show the tripod on the base with the troops. The first shows it over the crossed center and second shows it next to the troops.

Next up: VTOL Aircraft Here is my first WIP prototype for 15mm VTOL aircraft. (Please excuse the crude flight base. I needed a quick mockup for photographing. So I used a dollar store plastic shot glass and a galvanized roofing nail.) I want to design the VTOLs with a few different options for wings, tails, and cockpits. And I want the wings to be reversible. If you look closely at the first and third photos, you can see that the wings have been reversed, one swept back and one swept a little bit more forward.

Infantry - Perfect... The angle of the back leg adds an interesting 3D-like effect (for lack of a better way to explain it).
VTOL - Awesome... I can't wait to see it skinned. I'm imagining large turbo fans in the wings (^_^)

This is the next wave of test models. All the parts from these will be interchangeable the other designs.

It looks really awesome, love the design too! I also really like how you designed the tail, it looks sweet!

The prototypes for the Aircraft are completed with flight bases. The three types are fighter, attack (maybe gunship), and cargo, but all parts are interchangeable. That way you can define them as you wish. I've also rescaled them by 75% to be a little smaller. The bases are about two inches tall with a 50mm hex base. First up: The Three Aircraft with a Heavy Mech and Infantry for scale. Fighter Aircraft Cargo Aircraft Attack Aircraft

Definitely looking forward to seeing the texturing. They all look really sweet! The fighters design looks really awesome too, something about the wing design and swept forward wings makes it look like it's ready for business, Lol!

Lovin' it... Have you thought about a rotary-type aircraft? Like a futuristic Apache/Blackhawk/Chinook?

Lovin' it... Have you thought about a rotary-type aircraft? Like a futuristic Apache/Blackhawk/Chinook? I think I'm going to convert the one I labelled "Attack Aircraft" into a 'copter-type aircraft. The tail style and angle lends itself to the landing gear on a helicopter. Meanwhile, here's a teaser of the early stages of some wing detailing:

Wow that's looking sweet! Love the thrusters on the wings look, that's going to be one fast striking aircraft! Also awesome about the copter type aircraft, will it be a single rotor type or something closer to the Osprey or even avatar style?

Also awesome about the copter type aircraft, will it be a single rotor type or something closer to the Osprey or even avatar style? I'm leaning towards a central rotor with either a tail rotor or jets to balance the spin of the main rotor. The Cargo Aircraft above will have larger "in-wing" fan blades.

Sounds even more awesome, I definitely like both styles.

I think it was the Comanche prototype that used ducted air vents instead of a tail rotor, I think it used exhaust from the engine...
I've seen some V-tail models that look cool... if there are counter rotating main rotors (either stacked or side-by-side) there is no need to stabilize the tail...
You could have a vertical stabilizer with an integral fan similar to the fans on the wing you just posted...
