When I think of "hovercraft," I think of something skimming over the ground... NOT something that would have true flight. For lack of a better example, I will post Squirmydad's Recon Hover. I basic frame would be all you need, with a "X" frame in the middle that is a little higher than the sides to give it a "floating" effect. Attachments:

Well, that was Adam Souza's M.A.D.'s... I REALLY need to relabel my pictures... Let's try this again... Attachments:

The most obvious benefit would be it's ability to ignore rough terrain... but how many table setups include rough terrain? I like it from an overall game perspective just because it adds some variety with vehicle models. I'm thinking hover ability might cost 1Bp...

Just a quick update on the designs of the new vehicles: After another round of "station wagons", I went back to the drawing boards and scrapped most of my previous designs. Things are going much smoother now and are starting to look a lot better. Here's a teaser of the Ultra Light Vehicles wheels:

I would not mind a single box construction, especially on the UL vehicles. The two box construction of the origional vehicles is nifty, and looks awesome, but gets a little fiddly for my fat fingers.

LOL... No station wagons? What about mini-vans? (^_^)
Looks great so far...

So the progress continues on the new Ultra Light Class of Vehicles. I went back to look at what I wanted from the body designs and how I planned to achieve it: - Dune Buggy style vehicle made by extending the hood to show a speedy engine
- Enough flat roof space to mount a turret weapon
- Angled sides to add design interest, but with enough flat space to attach either wheels or tracks or hover jets
- A flat back to mount optional cargo doors
- Simple box construction to make them easy to build
And after wrestling with the "station wagons" of previous designs, I implemented all the ideas listed above and ended up with a model that not only was a pain in the rear to build but also looked like an AMC Pacer! Not the look I was going for! I would show a photo of this model but I smashed it out of frustration... My trip back to the drawing board was much more successful. I realized that I had been trying to cram too many goals into one body design and began working on two simpler body types: one that is dune buggy like for fast attack Ultra Light Vehicles and one that is more truck like for cargo type vehicles. I switched to a hollow box design with straight sides. This kept the design easy to build at such a small size. Below are some photos of the test builds. Each measures approximately 1.75" long X 1" wide X .75" tall. Note: the textures (or lack there of) on the vehicle bodies are just place holders and detailed designs are in progress. Let me know what you think!

Cool... I'm liking the "uni-body" design (^_^) I'm particularly fond of the "cargo" version... I think it would look just as well with a weapon/turret mounted on top.
I especially like the modular movement systems... tracked vs wheeled. That adds some good variety to a single body design.
Have you thought about doing a 2.5d dune buggy? Like the Special Forces use for scouting? I think that would have to be a wheeled only setup though... just brainstorming...

I like the new look! The shapes would be easy enough too put a bunch together in an afternoon off. I also like the modular suspension. You couls even do a couple more to include an airskirt version and a half track. Or to be really strange, a six leg design.
I think you are on the right track, now.

Stay tuned for the hover platforms... I'm leaning towards ducted fans/jets over air skirts but I'm still working out whether I want them to be flat applied (like the wheels and tracks) or a slotted simple folded design. Here is some WIP for the Ultra Light Vehicle Bodies. I decided on a tubular framework for the bodies to go with the Fast Attack Vehicle theme. I still need to work on the fill-in panels for armoring, but here is the basic tubular skeleton frame shown alone and with the wheels and tracks movement systems in place:

Nice... it's so cool how the wheels and the tracks give the same body a completely different look...

And the work in progress continues. I still need to add some more basic details to the vehicle bodies, but I've added armor plating to the tube frame. And I've added a version with the hover platform.

The hover skirt looks great... looking at them next to the tracks lead me to think that maybe the tracks would look better if they were longer, all the way out to the front and rear "bumpers".

Good eye! Is this better? I've also added details to the vehicle body. These armor plates carry over onto the hood, roof, and back.

The long tread is great, and so is the hovercraft deal. Another idea, maybe a couple different layer options for the armor between the bars?
