It's an emergency! Unexpected enemy contact has two forces suddenly pitted against each other in such a fashion that the commanders could not arrange the battle force beforehand. Mech pilots and armor drivers have to climb into the nearest ready equipment and make the best of a bad job.
So for this one, you'd have a set number of vehicles on a side, plus three infantry bases. For each set of mech weapons, you have a little envelope. Mix up all the envelopes.
Deploy forces on table sides and draw the weapons at random from a hat, only then do you, one by one, open your weapon envelopes and equip your mechs, in order left to right along your line.
Then you do the same for your cars.
If possible you could randomly determine what sorts of infantry you have as well.
I'm sure there can be more wrinkle to throw in here, and the set up would take a while, but it might be fun.
Here's one: have at least twice as many weapon envelopes as you have units, thus making the possibility of having a whole lot of one weapon system. Also maybe seperate the body weapons and the arm weapons to make that work.
I'll know more whether this would work once I have the game in hand, I'm sure.
